Three SHL regular seasons — 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26 — exported from The Hockey Analytics MotherDuck lake on 2026-08-10.

Do all SHL clubs give juniors similar ice?

No. Three-season club averages range from Skellefteå AIK at 14.7% down to Färjestad BK at 2.5%. HV71 sits near the top at 13.6%.

Does high JITS% mean a club is “better”?

Not by itself. It measures how much regular-season ice juniors actually receive. Clubs can win without high JITS%; the point is that development opportunity is unequal across the league.

Not all SHL clubs develop juniors the same — three seasons of JITS%

Every SHL club talks about developing juniors. The ice time they actually give them tells a different story.

We measured Junior Ice-Time Share (JITS%) — the share of skater ice that goes to players aged 20 or under on game day — across three SHL grundserie seasons in our MotherDuck lake. Goalies are excluded. Unknown dates of birth are treated as non-U20 (that can understate JITS% for true juniors; it does not invent ice that was not played).

The short version

Skellefteå AIK averages 14.7% JITS% over three seasons (peak 22.6% in 2024/25).
HV71 is close behind at 13.6%.
Färjestad BK sits at 2.5% — and 0.7% in 2025/26.
Same league rules. Very different junior ice. “All clubs develop equally” does not survive the TOI ledger.

Skellefteå’s 2024/25 season alone put 22.6% of skater ice on U20s — names like Axel Sandin Pellikka (45 GP, 20.6 avg TOI minutes that season in our individual table) show what “real ice” looks like. Färjestad’s 2025/26 share was 0.7%. That is not a rounding error; it is a roster construction choice.

Coaches see the same spread

Multi-season coach averages in the same export put Robert Ohlsson at 15.2% JITS% across three seasons and Anton Blomqvist at 14.9% over two. Bottom single seasons include MoDo 2023/24 at 0.1% under Mattias Karlin. Coaching tenures and club identity both show up in the TOI share — neither looks like league-wide equality.

What this is not

Not a claim that high JITS% wins the SHL title.
Not Elite Prospects on-demand enrichment sold as a customer fact table (enrichment was used in the export pipeline; the TOI math is lake-native).
Not a prediction that every high-JITS junior becomes an NHL regular — that is a separate, longer pathway question.

It is a falsification of the casual myth that Swedish elite clubs are interchangeable development environments. The ice says otherwise.
